A New Logo for Church of Our Saviour
“There is a sacred spring of water flowing at Our Saviour. As a small church, our work is to be clear about the particular kind of healing that bubbles up from our spring.”
The leaders of Church of Our Saviour reflected on the statement above at the start of 2025. Inspired by Martin Smith’s A Season for the Spirit, our rector, the Rev. Malia Crawford, offered the image of water as a metaphor for what we’ve discovered in our parish: a clear spring of Jesus’ living water, rippling outward, quenching the thirst of all who seek renewal.
“How do we find and engage with the people seeking the healing our spring offers?”
One of our priorities for the year was to clarify how Church of Our Saviour tells our story through words, images, and symbols. Christians have always done this: think of the power of color, shape, and icon (e.g., the cross) in shaping our faith traditions.
When launching our new logo, we reflected on who we are today as a parish:
A small, progressive, intergenerational, liturgically rooted community—a “locus for mercy, justice, and love in a broken world.”
Authentic and unpretentious, welcoming people just as they are.
With those thoughts, and more, in mind, we landed on the new Church of Our Saviour logo, consisting of concentric circles radiating from a heart inside the “O” of “Our.”
Why circles? The shape holds many layers of meaning:
Water ripples, spreading love outward from the center—suggesting an endless supply of living water emanating from the very heart of Jesus and available to anyone who is thirsty.
The unique physical layout of our church sanctuary; parishioners who worship with us in person gather in a circle around a round altar at the center.
A nod to our online worship opportunities, reaching beyond our physical walls, including Sunday Eucharist available on Zoom and YouTube, and a weekly evening online Bible study.
A symbol of wholeness, where everyone belongs.
When you look at the logo, we invite you to reflect:
What does this mean to you? There are no wrong answers!
What kind of healing could flow from Jesus’ love?
Who do you know that needs to find a refreshing drink of water in these harsh times?
