Ministries
Choir
We have a small and enthusiastic choir of women and men with lovely voices. They don’t robe, except on highly festive occasions, and intersperse themselves among the congregation during the service. Normally they gather once during the service for the anthem. We sing a variety of traditional and contemporary hymns. Choir practice is 9 am on Sundays. Anyone interested should talk to our Music Director, Tom Kingston.
Lectors and Intercessors
Lectors or Lay Readers are scheduled a few weeks in advance and we try to have two readers assigned each Sunday. One reads the Old Testament Lesson and leads the Psalm and the second reads the Epistle.
We also have one person each week who leads the Intercessions or Prayers of the People part of the service.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers
We have two Lay Eucharistic Ministers each week who have specific roles. One is vested and assists the priest throughout the service, especially during communion when he or she offers the chalice of wine. This person sits with the priest during the service. A second eucharistic minister who is not vested also serves the chalice. This person sits with the congregation during the majority of the service.
Altar Guild
If you are interested in the creative ‘behind the scenes’ work of preparing the church for worship, please speak to Lily. This involves, for example, decorating, preparing hangings and linens, laying out candles and vessels, placing flowers and readying the altar for the service. Sometimes one parishioner will take the lead on special decorations for a service or a theme for a season. That’s when the altar guild can help out holding ladders, shining brass, framing posters, and swathing things in fabric! It’s quite fun! Altar guild members sign up for specific Sundays and have some flexibility about when they work.
Ushers
Ushers serve to greet parishioners, assist newcomers, take up and present the offering, tidy up the pews, and do other small tasks to help the service run smoothly. If you are interested in ushering, contact Ginger Webb.
