The Church Building

tytso May 2nd, 2008

The Church of Our Saviour was begun over 80 years ago as a mission church with outreach to the East Arlington neighborhood. Our sanctuary is an intimate space that seats a congregation of around 100.

Narthex Window - Creation Two fused-glass windows grace our narthex (or foyer). The south window has a representation of an eagle flying into the sun. This refers to the words of the prophet Isaiah: “The son of righteousness arises like an eagle with healing in his wings.” It also has a bursting pomegranate which is a symbol of the Resurrection. There are also representations of the herb rosemary which is traditionally associated with the Nativity of our Lord and with healing. There are also hyacinths which again are associated with healing and with power and peace. Also, there is a sunflower which is an ancient symbol of the Christian soul turning to Christ.
The north window has a palm which is the symbol of the Passion of our Lord and His victory over sin and death. Just below it is a representation of a peacock feather which is a symbol of eternal life. Below it is an abstract design whcih includes seven pieces of glass representing the seven sacramental acts of the church. Narthex Window - Palm Sunday

The windows were dedicated on June 26, 1988 in loving memory of Florence M. and George A. Lincoln, long time faithful members of the parish.

Garden in Autumn

Our front garden is a beautiful and peaceful space. In the summer, we have our Sunday morning post-service coffee hour outside, but children are often seen here no matter what the season.
