Lay Ministry Opportunities
Choir
Our small but enthusiastic choir of women and men make a joyful noise each Sunday with their lovely voices. They don’t robe, except on highly festive occasions, and intersperse themselves among the congregation during the service. They usually gather once during the service for the anthem. The repertory includes a variety of traditional and contemporary hymns. Choir practice is 9 am on Sundays. Talk to our Music Director, Tom Kingston, if you are interested in joining.
Lectors and Intercessors
Lectors or Lay Readers are scheduled a few weeks in advance. Typically two readers are assigned each Sunday. One reads the Old Testament Lesson and leads the Psalm, and the second reads the Epistle.
Each week one person also leads the “Intercessions” or “Prayers of the People” part of the service.
Contact our Priest if you are interested in reading, leading prayers, or assisting in planning the liturgy.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers
Each week two Lay Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest, particularly at communion. One is vested and assists the priest throughout the service. During communion, he or she offers the chalice of wine. This person sits with the priest during the service. The second Eucharistic minister, who is not vested, also serves another chalice. This person sits with the congregation during the most of the service.
Contact our Priest if you are interested in becoming a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
Altar Guild
If you are interested in the creative ‘behind the scenes’ work of preparing the church for worship, Altar Guild is for you! Altar Guild activities include decorating, preparing hangings and linens, laying out candles and vessels, placing flowers, and readying the altar for the service. Sometimes one parishioner takes the lead on special decorations for a service or a theme for a season. That’s when the altar guild members have fun holding ladders, shining brass, framing posters, and swathing things in fabric!
Altar guild members sign up for specific Sundays and have some flexibility about when they work. Contact Mary Denton if you are interested in Altar Guild or Pam DiBona to assist in special art projects.
Ushers
Ushers serve to greet parishioners, assist newcomers, take up and present the offering, tidy up the pews, and do other small tasks to help the service run smoothly. If you are interested in ushering, contact Ginger Webb.
Fellowship Hosts
Following Sunday service, we gather in the parish hall for a time of fellowship and conversation. Fellowship hosts provide food items (like baked goods, fresh fruit, or other snacks) and juice. Different parishioners serve as fellowship hosts each week or for special events. To sign-up, contact Ginger Webb.
Pastoral Care
Pastoral care ranges from writing cards and being part of the Prayer Chain to providing parishioners with rides or meals and visiting homes or hospitals. Talk to Debra Rose Brillati to assist with pastoral care activities.
