Cambridge Annual Holocaust Commemoration

The City of Cambridge Peace Commission Annual Holocaust Commemoration will be at 7 p.m., Tues. May 5 at Temple Beth Shalom, 8 Tremont St., Cambridge. Carole Belgrade will be one of the readers. The speaker will be Sylvia Smoller, who was born in Poland and, as a child, fled with her parents to Lithuania. In 1940, they again escaped – this time from Russian-occupied Lithuania via Siberia – with the help of Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who issued visas to fleeing refugees against the orders of his government.
