Celebrate Bishop Shaw’s Ministry

Bishop Tom Shaw is preparing to retire on Sept. 13 following the consecration of our new bishop, Alan Gates. In the back of the church, you’ll find a red blank book, where you are invited to write or attach artwork expressing your thoughts and prayers. The book will be given to Bp. Tom at a diocesan-wide all-ages picnic, to which you are all invited.

Jim Mouradian writes, “Dear fellow COS parishioners, If you’re like me, every Sunday when we’re reminded to write a note to Bishop Shaw for his journal, I say to myself, “Oh ya, I’ve got to do that.” Well, I’m afraid that the deadline is going to come and go and then it will be too late. Let’s make sure he knows how much we at COS appreciate all he has done in his ministry as our bishop. Please, take a moment, jot down a few lines at home and then transcribe them into the journal, or just slip the paper in his book. Thanks.

The picnic and worship celebration will be on Sat., June 21, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Bp. Frank T. Griswold III will preach, and Bp. Barbara C. Harris will offer her remarks in tribute. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy; ice cream and beverages will be provided. The celebration will be held at Pinebank Promontory on Jamaica Pond which is at the corner of Perkins St. and the Jamaicaway in Jamaica Plain, in Boston. Carpooling and public transportation are strongly encouraged; shuttle buses from public transportation are being arranged. For more information and to RSVP, go to
